Q: How can I find a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner extended cab, with a manual trans and a 4cyl engine?
Please don't tell me they are hard to find, I already know. Are there specialized websites I can search? Thanks!

A: I just bought a 2003 PreRunner V6. I looked at the four cylinder, but the gas mileage difference was minimal (about two MPG) and the six has a lot more torque especially in a small truck like a Tacoma. Plus the six just sounds so much better IMO. Anyway, I saw quite a few of the fours, in PreRunner trim, on the AutoTrader site (www.autotrader.com). I shopped mostly in the Texas/Oklahoma market though. Good luck. ** Ebay is also a good place to look...as mentioned above. That's where I found mine.

Q: Does anyone know where to find the gas door lock for a 1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma?
Yeah, really specific, I know. :-) Someone tried to break into my gas tank, and pretty much ruined the lock in the process. The use of the damaged lock led to damage to the gas door itself. While I can fix the gas door, the lock is a different story, and I really don't want to go without a gas door. I've been scouring the internet for locks, but I just don't seem to be getting anywhere. If you have any info, let me know. Thanks!

changing out the transmission fluid completely and can't find anywhere the amount to put back in. Thanks, that's what I'm hearing from family members too,but do I check it while running in neutral or park? Can't find the owners manual

A: have you checked the owner's manual? There should be a section labeled "maintenance" or "specifications". It will give all the fluid amounts you need such as oil, transmission, coolant, etc. Or you can try the Toyota website. They should have an owner's section that has this information.

Q: Where can I find the cheapest prices on a brush guard for a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4 door 4 X 4 ?
I cant find one for less than $500.00 for a chrome one.

A: unless you are in a really hot climate or a really mountainous area then i would say no based on the amount that you are towing.

A: I don't quite remember (former electrical mechanic) but if it doesn't just pull out, there will be two screws holding it in. Look at the direction the blades of the fuse are headed, and fine a matching pair of screws about half an inch in that direction from the fuse body. They will have a positive electrical current running to them, so be sure to disconnect the battery first.

A: The engine light could be a number of problems. You can take the car up to any place similar to auto zone and they will run a quick can on your car for free. It only takes a second and they can tell you why the engine light is on with out having to take your can in right away.

Q: How do you turn the fog lights on in a 2004 toyota tacoma?


A: 2004 model right? A 2004 Tacoma did not come with fog lights as a factory option in North America. There are marker lights on the sides of the headlights and the turn signal lamps in the bumper. If there are aftermarket fog lights installed on the 2004 Tacoma, it could be done with a Toyota switch or the switch that came with the light kit. If it is a Toyota swtich, it is likely to the left of the steering collumn or below the ashtray. If it is not a Toyota switch, it could be installed anywhere - but unless the installed was off, it would be in easy reach of the driver. On 2005 and newer Tacomas which have factory fog lights, the switch is to left of the steering wheel. Pete

what is a bigger size tire for the 2004 4 cly toyota tacoma? i have the smaller tires and i'm looking to make it look bigger, but i dont want them so big that i will have to mess w/ the gears and the speedomiter

A: it will depend on whether you have the 15 inch or 16 inch wheels. If you have the 15 inch wheels, I KNOW that you can put 31x10x50 on it, its adds about an inch or so too(or at least it did mine when i upgraded from 235's) Mine has the 15 inch wheel. My buddy has a 2004 tacoma with the 16 inch wheels and 265 tires, but they rub really bad; it doesn't even have to be off road to rub. Mud terrain 265's on 16 inch wheels are too big unless you have a lift. I'm not real sure if you get a straight tread design, BUT who would do that to a toyota?? If you have the smaller tires tho, i am assuming you have the 4 cylinder tacoma like me. 31x10x50 are the best, they will lift you more than you will expect and it will only change your speedometer about 2 mph different(at least mine did) If you go bigger than the 31's, they may rub without a lift. A: I would not put anthing bigger than 3". You'll have drivetrain problems later on. Here's a option with pics.

A: buy speakers for the front and back of your vhicle at crutchfield. you can select what kind of car you have and they'll show you what you need.

Q: Does a lift kit for a 1996-2004 Toyota Tacoma fit on a 1997 Toyota 4runner SR5?


A: I highly doubt it... I'm working on memory here, so don't quote me, but I think the 4Runner has coil spring suspension in the rear where the Tacoma has leaf springs... .big difference. If you really want to screw up your 4Runner by lifting it, keep looking around at different manufacturers. I'm sure sooner or later you will find a kit for your application. I'm not trying to talk you out of lifting your Runner.... but they are top heavy to start with... the first time you have to make an abrupt lane change on the interstate, it could just fall over on you.... there is not much room at all and i do like the kenwood excelons but i dont know how i would fit them in there since there is such a shallow space
