Q: How do I change the front dome light (map light) bulbs in a 2000 GMC Sierra? What type do they take?
Consulting the owners' manual was the FIRST thing I tried. These map lights are two hemispherical (directional) fixtures imbedded in the overhead console (which I also can't see how to remove). They have flush lenses that can't be pried off. This question is intended for those who already know how to change THIS bulb in THIS vehicle. ~Thanks~
A: They are a 14 volt "pinch base" bulb. Not sure on that one, but I think the cover un-screws from the pivot and comes off over top of the bulb.
Q: How do you remove the door panels on a 2000 GMC sierra 1500 to replace the speakers?
A: In the immortal words of Emmit Brown, "we may have to blast!" No, seriously, I have a 2000 GMC 2500 4x4 and they have a few screws around the arm rest and here and there and when you get them all out the panels have clips that with a little finesse they will pop out . work on it you'll figure it out.
Q: 2000 GMC Sierra 40 amp ignition fuse blows when you try to start it?
TRIED BATTERY AND LOOKED FOR LOOSE CONNECTIONS , FOUND NOTHING
A: Disconnect the starter, and see if it blows when you turn the key. If it does, check for any wires going from the starter to the harness that is shorting to ground. If it is ok, Have the starter checked. It could be overloading the circuit. The starter could be bad and drawing too many amps.
Q: Where can I find a four-wheel drive switch for a 2000 GMC Sierra, and how do I replace?
Having trouble getting in and out of 4-wheel drive, I heard that this particular year and model has had this problem frequently, and that it is a pretty simple fix, but I have looked all around online and can't find anyone that has a four-wheel drive switch for this truck. Need to know where to find one of these, and also how to install
A: are you sure the switch is your problem? I know the more common problem is the electric servo that is screwed into the front axle. you can check it by going under the passenger side of the truck at the "back" of the front axle just to the top right of the pumpkin there will be a plastic cylinder (about the size of a can of red bull) with a couple of wires coming out, undo the connector for the wires and unscrew the servo there usually not in that tight but you might need to use channel locks after you get it out plug the wires back in turn the key on and shift to 4x4 and go look at the servo the plunger at the end where you unscrewed it should be sticking out atleast 1.5 inches if not tap on it if it does not come out you need to replace it. if it works fine than its probably your switch as you said. you might find either one at a used vehicle salvage yard.( junk yard )
Q: 2000 GMC Sierra horn, interior lights, cargo light, and turn signals wont work.?
None of them work. I havent checked voltage to any of them, nor the ground connection. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these problems so I wont waste so much time looking for the problem. Thanks
I forgot to say that its not a fuse because the horn works sometimes and sometimes it sounds weak. The interior lights show a dim flash when doors are unlocked. The flashers just stopped all of a sudden about 2 weeks after everything else.
A: Was this all of a sudden?
The interior lights and cargo light are on the same circuit, possibly with the horn.
The turn signals are different. did they quit at the same time? do they just not blink? or do they not come on at all? Was your car running when you tried to signal?
Cover the stupid stuff first. Fuses blow for a reason, they usually do not blow "all of the sudden" like that.
Where are you?

Q: 2000 GMC Sierra leaking coolant?
Have a 2000 GMC Sierra 2WD 4.3L Vortec V6. Recently noticed some coolant leaking from the back of the engine on the ground. Can't really see where it is coming from thou. It leaks down the side of the engine on driver side at the back where it bolts to the Transmission. I think it's the intake manifold gasket leaking. Anybody have any other ideas as to where it is leaking?
A: Could also be from the head gasket, running to the outside, instead of into the combustion chamber...though it's highly unlikely. You're probably correct thinking it's the intake gasket.
Q: Advice needed for replacing shocks on my 2000 GMC Sierra?
I own a 2000 GMC Sierra with just under 58,000 miles. It seems like the ride has deteriorated in the past year...Gotten rougher. My owners manual says nothing about replacement intervals, the dealer told me they normally don't replace shocks because they don't usually wear out, (yeah...right) another shop says one thing (50,000miles), the tire store says another!! Anyone know the right answer or milage recommended or had a similar experience with their OE GMC shocks? I have tried the 'bounce' test and that is inconclusive for me. HELP!
A: i work at a chevrolet dealership and shocks from the factory are not cheap shocks. we very rarely change them at 58000 miles. take a look at the shock. are they leaking? you can see the oil,. the bounce test is the best. go to the corner of the truck and bounce it 3-4 times and let go. if it bounces more than once you need a shock. go to all 4 and do this test. have you changed tires on your truck? if so they may be a different kind than you had before. do you rotate? run your hand over the tire in both directions. are they smooth? if they are bumpy feeling that means they are cupping and you may need an alignment. good luck
