Q: What diesel engine will fit a 2003 ford ranger 4x4?
I'm converting my 2003 ranger to a diesel engine so I can then made modifications to run it on vegetable oil. I'm hoping to find a diesel engine that will drop right in without any new engine mounting brackets, transmition bell adaptors, ect. I've been told a 2.2 Mazda diesel from the 80 may be the answer. Thanks for the answers!

A: Any diesel engine going into an '03 Ranger will have to be modified, whether its engine mounts, or tranny, or anything else. The only engines that can be interchanged with that year Ranger are the Explorer and the Mazda B-series, and none of those engines are diesel, which means you will not find a direct drop in. Not only that, whatever vehicle you get the diesel engine from, you are going to need all the wiring and computer from that same vehicle as well. It can be done, but that is a lot of work and is going to cost more than if you went and bought an old vehicle with a diesel engine in it.

Q: What would be my best audio option for a 2003 Ford Ranger XL?
I will be purchasing a 2003 Ford Ranger XL, and therefore have limited space. I would need a system that could handle rock and metal music. I'm afraid I don't know anything about car audio, but I've been told that I need an amp, a head, a subwoofer, and new speakers (2 of them in the doors). I'm looking to spend less that $1000 on the whole system. Could you please give me your suggestions for a complete system under $1000? I need a subwoofer that can fit in the truck rather than the trunk, and I have limited space since I do not have a cab ( truck only seats 3 people). Also for the head, do they make a multiple disc changer in dash? Thank you for all the responses. I was looking to put in a Bazooka tube behind the seat, has anyone heard any good things about them? *Actually this combo: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zZve4ELU2jl/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=700BAZTUBE Also I was looking at a Blaupunkt London MP37 reciever with Blaupunkt's CDC-A03 10 disc changer (I want to put it in the glove box), would this be a sond option with a decent pair of speakers at ~$100 a pair?

A: Nice to see another Ranger out there! I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT, so i do have a little more space for subs and such but my brother also has a Ranger, regular cab and he has a sub in there. I currently have an: Alpine Head Unit (CDA-9851) (My exact model is no longer in production i think but any HU that does not exceed 8-11/16" in depth should fit.) AudioBahn AEQ8 Equalizer (Below the HU) http://www.audiobahn.com/Audiobahn06/pages/process.html TMA 320.4 amp (http://tma.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=423) TMA 500.1 amp (http://tma.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=421) 4 x Alpine Coaxial Speakers (SPS-57C2) - http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=SPS-57C2 And a Ported Power Wedge Sub System from JL Audio (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_enclosures.php?menu=8&prod_id=320) And 2 amp wiring kits with extra RCA cables and stereo wires It hits hard and very very clear, no distortion. By no means am i telling you to get this but use it just as an example of what you could use. Everything i listed should fit in your car except the Sub box which would push your seats forward a lot. Try going here http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_enclosures_pages.php?menu=10&page_id=27 to look at the different subs from JL that would easily fit. My brother uses the CS110TG-W1v2. Any 5x7/6x8 Speaker should fit right into the factory speakers place. Please feel free to E-mail me and i can help you out with picking things that work together and even how to install it in your ranger. I did all the installation in my own system. Good Luck! **EDIT** Go to Crutchfield.com and click on Outfit my Car to look at what CD Changers work with what Head Units.

Q: Adding temporary weight to a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge?
I'm driving from San Diego to Longmont Colorado through the Rockies. My Ford Ranger is so light that any wetting of the road causes poor traction. My 5 year old granddaughter is travelling with me and I want to take every precautuin. Has anyone added weight (sand bags for example) for traction purposes? If so, was there an advantage as to where the weight sits (in front or behind the rear wheels)? I'm planning to leave Nov 17th and expect to hits lots of slippery weather. Thanks.

A: Yes we put sand bags or even heavy logs in the back of our pick up. We live in Northern Michigan so we are driving through snow and ice 9 months out of the year. We have a 4 wheel drive and even that is light in the back end. We can't use any chains here because it is illegal just regular snow tires. We put the sand bags over the axels. Good luck and safe driving.

Q: How do I change the headlight on a 2003 Ford Ranger?
I'm trying to install new bulbs but can't get the old bulb assemblies out. I've tried (seemingly) everything but can't get the room to work. I want to change both but the passenger side seems to be even harder than the driver side. Any advice?

A: Should be fairly straightforward. Twist the assembly counter clockwise then pull gently. Should come out. Make sure not to touch the replacement bulb with your hand. The oil on your skin will shorten the life of the bulb. Wear a glove or use a plastic bag.

Q: What is the oldest year of euro tail lights that will fit a 2003 Ford Ranger?
I know the body style only changes every couple of years, how far back can I go and still have them fit my truck? Will '00 - '01 up at least fit?

A: get the ones made for your year because of different wiring harnesses, some years have separate turn signal lights from the brakes and on some years the brake lights are also used for the turn signals

Q: Where is the ac clutch control relay located at in a 2003 Ford ranger?
I know it's somewhere in the dash but I can't find it.

A: If I remember, it is in a fuse box under the hood on the drivers side of the North American version of the ranger owners manual should help you in locating it

Q: 2003 Ford Ranger Edge: How much temporary weight should I add for better traction?
Thanks to those who recommended temporary weight be placed over the rear axle. Any suggestions regarding how much weight would be most beneficial? I don't mind giving up mpg for traction. Just asking for a best guess or experience for least weight = most improved traction. 100, 200 maybe 300 lbs? More? Thanks to all again.

A: I have a Ford F150, and I put a sand bag in each corner of the box (back corners). Each bag weighs approximately 60 lbs. That is more than adequate for traction. A few words of caution....if you put the weight in the rear corners, like I did (behind the axle) you don't need as much as if you put right on the axle (leverage factor). Be careful not to put too much weight there, as it could take weight off the steering axle, and you don't want that.. As well, be sure to secure the weights properly, in case of an accident. Hope this helps.

Q: How do I take the logos off the side of my 2003 Ford Ranger?
I'm talking about the hard logos on the front quarter panels that say Ranger XLT. I want to get them powdercoated black, can't seem to find black ones for sale anywhere.

A: use floss or fishing line and it will come off easily, then buy some goo gone or something to remove the sticky residue

Q: 2003 ford ranger rolled and body damage fixed, but is there any long term mechanical damage?
2003 ford ranger 88000 miles rolled and fixed, but i am worried that there will be a problem with it in the future. i have heard not to buy rolled vehicles because you may have to replace the motor. help me ASAP

A: With any roll over the chance that something is not going to work right it's as sure as the sun is going to rise in the morning. the long term is the biggest problem your going to have to face.Probably an alignment issue is the most likely ,the transmission lining up with the engine or the engine might have shifted on the motor mounts,or broken bolts.Brake lines might have shifted and might rub up against the frame or other parts. Some parts that look okay now might have stress cracks that you can't see at first but break later down the road. Then there's the body alignment do the doors close easy are the gaps around the door even,do the windows have gaps that cause wind noise, does the hood close without rubbing the fenders Does it leak around the windshield. It all depends on where you buy it or who you buy it from if they will fix the problems in reasonable time after you buy it and you trust the person give it a shot.Good luck

Q: where can i find a simple body lift kit for a 2003 ford ranger?
I want to get kind of an offroad look although the truck is a 4x2. I want to get some bigger tires and maybe a brushgaurd of some kind. Any help would be apprciated.

A: www.ntwonline.com has a 3" body lift for the 2003 ranger, but jcwhitney will have every kind of brush guard imaginable. Also summitracing.com has a 3" lift too. Between those three sites, you can find just about everything you could possibly want for your truck. And if you ever consider a suspension lift for your truck, look at camburg engineering, they have some excellent stuff.

Q: Where are the attachment points for an engine hoist 'chain' to remove the engine from 2003 ford ranger 3.0L
The 'books' say to attach the chain to the engine lifting brackets, but are these actually on the engine somewhere. I'm not seeing them. I will probably just remove a few bolts and replace them with my own and the chain attached to it.

A: If you don't have these plates/hooks, buy two bolts 1.5" to 2" longer than the intake bolts, stick them through the chain or plate if you've got a Cool Guy hoist, at opposite front and rear corners. I can't remember how many motors I have pulled in this manner.

Q: What is the best way to change a tail light lens on a 2003 ford ranger?

A: it is only a matter of unscrewing the tail light and then unplugging the light out of the holder and then change the bulb. piece of cake

Q: Looking for make of a 2001 to 2003 Ford Ranger special edition?
I have a bet going with my husband that they made a Special Edition kind of lowered with a show body on it of the Ford Ranger. I remember meeting a guy in Missouri who had one brand new. I need to know what it is called and where I can find pictures. I remember seeing the icon on it and I think it had a thunder bolt in it, but it is not the ford lightening I know what those look like. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

A: You may be referring to the "Edge" version of the Ford Ranger, which was available for several years. The link below on Edmunds.com has an overview of this version of the Ranger, including the style details. If it's not an Edge model, I can't say what it was that you saw.

Q: How much should it cost to "lift" my 2003 ford ranger?

A: nothing ....use the jack
