Q: Ford Ranger?
If I lift a 2000 Ford Ranger 3inch what size tire would work best. with out triming to much of the fenders and not killing my gas miliage 6cyl 4.0 liter

A: if its got a 4-banger, ur gonna kill the mileage.... there under powered from the showroom

Q: Ford Ranger: How do I reset the computer for the check engine light?
I recently replaced my EGR valve in my '95 Ford Ranger and yet the check engine light still comes on. I unhooked the battery cables for 15 minutes which caused the light to go off, but it came back on after about an hour of driving. What else is there to do?

A: Well, since you've already installed the EGR valve you've puchased from Auto Zone, the option of returning the part for a refund is no longer viable. But, I would bet the farm your EGR valve WASN'T the problem. More likely it was the DPFE sensor that needed replaced, NOT the EGR valve. This sensor is either an aluminum bodied rectangular shaped sensor with two rubber hoses and a three wire electrical connector connected to it, or a black pastic sensor if it has already been replaced before. This is a VERY commonly failing part on ALL Ford products. You would need to purchase it from the Ford dealer parts department. Just ask for part number F77Z-9J460-AB at the counter to get the part you need. Hope this helps.

Q: After driving my 97 ford Ranger for several miles and shutting down the engine, I have to wait 5 min to restar
After driving my 97 Ford Ranger for several miles and shutting down the engine, I have to wait five/ten minutes before it will restart. This only happens once ever so often (one out of ten times) . What's causing this. It acts like the old days of vapor lock.

A: I'd suspect it's the charcoal canister and it's plugged up. That allows the fuel tank to vent and you might have some negative pressure in the tank, not allowing the fuel pump to pump fuel into the engine. Next time that happens, unhook the hoses that goes to the canister (under the hood) and see if that helps. Get a replacement and you're GTG.

Q: How would changing the solenoid in a 1987 ford Ranger cause no power?
I changed out the solenoid in my 1987 Ford Ranger, now I have no power at all. The battery shows as having full power when i check it. What could have happened. All the fuses seem to be fine as well.

A: You either didn't hook the fusible links back up or have them on the wrong side of the solenoid

Q: What size tires will a ford ranger clear?
I'm just wondering what size of tires a stock 1993 Ford Ranger will clear...The truck has no suspension mods whatsoever, just a stock truck.

A: If I recall, friends who had one used 29 inch tall on stock 4by without any lift, but I also recall that they had to trim the bottom rear corner of the front wheel wheel so as the fender would not cut into the tread on tight turns. A minimal body lift (not a suspension lift) is a reasonable option to consider for costs as well as keeping the geometry intact for ride and handling. A 1.5 inch lift will let you go to 30's.

Q: How do I locate my drain plug on a 2007 ford ranger?
I drive a auto ford ranger and i need to find the drain plug. If you can show image will be a plus.

A: From under the car, about the middle ares, there will be large (about 1 foot by 1 foot) pan with a bolt stuck to it. That is the OIL PAN and the drain plug. Just make sure that when you put the drain plug back on, don't over tighten it. It really doesn't hold anything besides the oil. Here's a picture of oil pan and drain plug (not the ford ranger). http://www.2carpros.com/discovery/images/oil_filter_3.jpg http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/experience/maintenance/oilchange/drainpoints.jpg http://www.danoland.com/nsxgarage/oil_change/oil06.jpg Good Luck....

Q: What is the best way to Improve my 1991 Ford Ranger's performance?
I have a 1991 Ford Ranger and i just can't seem to give it up. I have the money and time to fix "her" up and improve her style. What are the major things that i should start out on? New engine or keep the one i have and improve on it? (2.3L 4 Cyl. M/T) Im up for any ideas and insights.

A: The 2.3 in the Ranger is pretty much the same as in the Mustang or the T-bird. The best place to go if you want to find performance parts for that engine, is Racer Walsh. Hope that helps!

Q: How much can a Ford Ranger carry in the bed?
How much weight is a new standard (XLT) Ford Ranger certified to carry in the bed? How much weight is it certified to tow, with the appropriate hitch?

A: Rangers are half ton trucks, so 1000 pounds. You can add air bags and increase the weight another 500 pounds. for towing, if you get a class 3 hitch, you can tow probably 10,000 pounds, but I wouldn't recommend that much unless its an easy drive. the excess weight isn't the issue as much as the truck sliding back & forth. Rangers are tough trucks, it can handle whatever you throw at it. But if you're looking for more hauling & towing, you should've gotten an F-150 or even F-250

Q: What kind of engine would be good for a 2000 Ford Ranger?
I have a 2000 ford ranger and i wanted to look at engine to put in it in the future. Could i replace it with a v8?

A: if you want to stay smog legal, I would hop up the 4.0 SOHC. the new Mustangs use it and have over 200 hp. with 400 possible..

Q: How do you change the gear oil for a 92 Ford Ranger?
We need to change the gear oil for a 4 cylinder engine on a manual 92 Ford Ranger. We got under the car and tried inserting a tube, but it spilt all over the place. IS there any easier way?

A: No, I don't think there is.... only if it has a drain plug, Which most American cars do not....

Q: Where can I find a transmission for my 1993 ford ranger?
I am looking for a transmission for my 93 ford ranger. It is a manual trans. 5 speed. I was told there were a couple of different types of transmissions for this model and am not sure which one is right for my truck. If anyone knows someone who is selling one or knows how to get one please let me know. Thank you.

A: Generally the 150 systems work for a ranger. The mechanic needs to know the torque you use. The readjustment of the oil decks will show whether the model is very close. There are silverados that will fit some wont. so on. Used should not be too far away. Also to use one used keep the gearbox cool for a month, a whole month, the torque or engine, maybe the universal can be nockin for a while. Keep loads down to no supersize, no fries.

Q: How can I get more power in my 1993 Ford ranger?
Is there an easy way to boost the horsepower in my Ford ranger? I have a 2.3 engine. I said an EASY way.

A: For a 2.3 engine, you can go with a Cols Air Intake and a high flowing muffler.... these are the 2 cheapest easiest ways, also get some platinum plugs.....

A: call a lock smith
